Hello and welcome to Papua New Guinea! The government and people of this island nation welcome you the delegates and visitors from the African, Caribbean, Pacific and the European Union Parliaments (ACP-EU) when you arrive on our shores for your meetings, from November 17th to the 28th, 2008. Information in this brochure will help you know more about your host country, Papua New Guinea, the city of Port Moresby and the many interesting places to see and enjoy while in our country. Papua New Guinea is a land diverse of many cultures and languages. From its white sandy beaches and islands to the cool mountain climate and the hot tropical forests; Papua New Guinea and its people make up the eastern half of Papua New Guinea, the second biggest island in the world. With a population of 6.5 million, Papua New Guinea is a young developing nation, dynamic in politics and rich in the mining and petroleum sector. Agriculture and fisheries are still the primary sectors of employment with 80% of the population actively involved in ; 5% in the mining and petroleum sectors and the rest in the civil and private industrial sectors. Port Moresby The capital city of Papua New Guinea is Port Moresby located south-east on mainland New Guinea, neighboring Papua Province of the Republic of Indonesia and north of Australia border. Port Moresby has a population of over 500,000 people.
